Here Ye Here Ye Learn to make these cocktails with Brothers Drake Meadery

Julian and Kari from Brothers Drake Meadery stopped by the Mix Studio Bar ready to share and sample several bottles of their incredible meads with Andre and Mix listeners. Mead is thought to be the oldest fermented drink in the world, and the flavors Julian creates using simple ingredients at the meadery are out of this world. The crew featured the meadery’s mainstay, Apple Pie, along with it’s close second, Battleaxe – think Thanksgiving dinner in a glass. They also brought in Blackjack, Summer Queen, and Wild Ohio. Today, Julian and Kari created two cocktails using mead. First, a simple two ingredient drink using Apple Pie mead and Middle West Spirits Whiskey called “The Cortland.” And second, the “Battle-Me,” a cocktail which enhances the complexities of the Battleaxe mead using gin, bitters, and vermouth. Check out the video below to learn how you can make these easy drinks at home.

Need weekend plans? Stop by the Ohio Renaissance Festival now through October 30 down in Harveysburg, OH. Not only will you travel back to a 16th century village filled with thrilling shows, food & drink, and unique shops; you can also sip mead from Brothers Drake Meadery. Last year nearly 2000 gallons of mead from Brothers Drake was consumed by festivalgoers throughout the course of the faire. The Renaissance Festival will have mead selections available like Apple Pie, WIld Ohio, Battleaxe, and others. They will also be creating cocktails with the mead using apple cider and other ingredients. Be sure to imbibe while you’re there, albeit responsibly.

Brothers Drake now has two locations, their main location is in the Short North Arts District at 26 E. 5th Avenue, which offers a full bar, live music and of course, mead Wednesdays – Saturdays. Stop in Wednesdays and Thursdays for live music. The second Brothers Drake location is in Grandview at 1025 W. 3rd Avenue, which only open Saturdays at 2pm & 4pm for Mead Maker Tours. Be sure to schedule a time to meet Julian, sample meads and learn more about the meadery. Stop by the main location on October 22 for Apple Pie Day.
